Mrs. Eliza Sherman

The deceased was born in Deleware county, Pennsylviania, in 1844. There she spent her childhood. At nineteen years of age she was married to Mr. Erza Smith. They went to western Minnesota, Park Prairie, in their early married life. There their influence was felt for good in school and church. Mrs. Smith was the first teacher in that part of the country. In her home religious services were held because there was the largest room and because Mr. and Mrs. Smith were earnest christian workers. Gospel ministers found in their home a warm welcome and rest. Mrs. Smith was the mother of two children, and she brought up three step children for Mr. Smith and she was the same, kind, tender mother to them all.

In 1891 Mrs. Smith became the wife of Rev. Thomas H. Sherman. They have lived in Osage for some years past where Mrs. Sherman had made many friends in her quiet walk at home and in the church. She became a christian in early life and was a great help in the little Baptist church and the Sunday school that she helped to organize in Park Prairie, Minnesota.
She passed away quietly, with a firm trust in her Savior, December 6, 1898. After a short service at the home of brother Sherman, December 8, led by Prof. J. A. Lapham (in the absence of her pastor, Rev. S.E. Wilcox), the remains were taken by a beloved son to the old home north of St. Paul. Her sorrowing husband has the sympathy of many friends in his sore berevement.
