Funeral services for Carl E. Duenow, age 80, of 403 North 10th Street in Osage, Iowa, will be held on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage with Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev. Roy Ott officiating. The body will be cremated after the church service with inurnment in the Osage Cemetery at a later date.
Carl died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center-Hospice Unit in Osage.
Carl Everett Duenow was born September 30, 1926, the son of Carl A. and Edna (Koster) Duenow on their farm near St. Ansgar, Iowa.
He attended Spring Valley rural school and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1944. Carl entered the United States Army, serving in the Army Infantry at Camp Hood, Texas, in 1944-45 and in the Adjutant General Division, 2nd Army Headquarters, Ft. Meade Maryland in 1945-46. He attended Austin Junior College. Carl farmed near St. Ansgar on the family farm.
On December 3, 1950, he married Sylvia Krogstad at the Osage Lutheran Church. They farmed for eight years, after which Carl spent the next thirty years in territory sales, personnel and dealer management in agriculture related business. Carl and Sylvia also owned and operated an engraving business from 1982 to 1997. Through the years, Carl was a member of Kiwanis, Lions and Rotary service clubs. Music was the joy of his life, and he loved to sing in church choirs and in a Gospel Song Men's group while wintering in Texas. He was the current president of the Mitchell County Concert Series. He also served as a volunteer radio announcer at KCMR Radio in Mason City for twenty years.
He was preceded in death by one infant son and three infant daughters, as well as his parents.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Sylvia; daughter, Melanie of Minneapolis, Minn.; and son Scott and his wife, Annette of Jersey City, N.J.
He is also survived by brothers, Wayne (Dorothy) Duenow of Jefferson City, Mo., Kenneth (Shirley) Duenow of St. Ansgar, Merlyn (LuAnn) Duenow of Montgomery, Minn., and John Duenow (Sally) of Liberty Lake, Wash. Also surviving are sisters, Shirley Markham of Osage, Eleanor Tracy of St. Ansgar, and Margaret (Larry) Runtsch of Lake City, Minn. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
