Funeral services for Frederick L. Fischer, age 70, who died at his home in Carpenter, Iowa on June 14, 1983, were held on June 17 at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar with the Rev. E.C. Franke, pastor of Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, officiating.
Frederick L. Fischer was born on October 11, 1912 in Stacyville, Iowa, the son of Fred and Dora (Baldner) Fischer. He attended school until the eighth grade, and then worked with his father and brothers in their sawmill, until he entered military service in World War II, on April 21, 1942. He was awarded many combat ribbons and battle stars, including the Purple Heart.
After his military service he worked, until 1953, at the A & S Garage in Austin, Minnesota, then he moved to Carpenter with his wife, Christina Lowe. He owned and operated the DX service service station in Carpenter, and later was custodian at the school in Carpenter. Still later, he was a pump repair serviceman until he retired after the loss of a foot.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Warren, Lawrence and Norman.
He is survived by his wife, Christina of Carpenter; by one brother, Roy of Austin, Minnesota' and by nieces and nephews.
Burial was in the Union Presbyterian cemetery with the Rev. Franke in charge of committal services.
