Funeral services were held for Christian Springer, 73, from the First Lutheran church Saturday afternoon with the Rev. Olaf A. Langehough in charge of the services.
Death came Thursday, May 5, at Charles City, Iowa, where he has made his home since 1912.
Christian Springer was born at St. Ansgar, Iowa, December 5, 1864, the son of Mr. & Mrs. H. O. Springer. He attended the local schools here and then took a normal school training at Luther College at Decorah. He taught schools in and around Manly, Iowa.
On June 13, 1892, he was married to Maria Jane Williams in St. Ansgar. To this union was born five children: Kenneth H. Springer, Charles City; Mrs. M. E. Fredrickson, Cedar Falls; Cyrus M. Springer, Charles City; Orien Springer, Dixon, Illinois; and Mrs. K. L. Gibson, Iowa City. There are 7 grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Wyborny of Lyle, Minnesota that also mourn him.
After a short teaching career Mr. Springer worked at various sales jobs, moving to Charles City in 1912 to work with the Sherman Nursery Co. For the past 26 years he has been a member of the Charles City community, traveling in and out of the surrounding territory with various sales lines.
A number of years ago he was afflicted with deafness which caused him to avoid the society of people and turn to the comforts of nature and books. He was a great lover of literature, nature and beauty. His Bible was a constant companion since his student days.
