Funeral services for Jens P. Block, 84, of Austin, Minnesota, who died at St. Olaf hospital in Austin on December 3, 1983, were held December 6 at the First United Methodist church in Austin, with the rev. Kenneth Willard officiating.
Jens Peter Block was born in Denmark November 2, 1889, the son of Fritz Christiansen and Ann Block. He migrated to the United States at the age of 21. He settled near Osage, Iowa, andlater moved to St. Ansgar. He lived in the Lyle area from 1938 and farmed until his health failed. Then he moved to Austin in 1966 where he lived until his death. He attended school in Denmark.
He married Blanche Seffinga on September 2, 1925 in Osage. Five sons and four daughters were born to them. Mr. Block was a member of the Danish Brotherhood Lodge III in Austin, Austin Senior Citizen Center, Forever Young Club of his church, and the First United Methodist church.
He is survived by his wife, Blanche of Austin; three sons (and daughters-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. Richard Block of New Richmond, Wisconsin; Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Block, Lakeland, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. David Block of Escondido, California; and Mrs. Joan Block of Austin, Minn.; three daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford (Ann) Diggins, Austin, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Richard (Marilyn) Lewis of Stewartville, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Merwin (Gloria) Read, Jr. of Hibbing, Minn.; and also 25 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Marius (Maren) bendsten, Mrs. Tina Jensen and Mrs. Dagney Petersen, all of Denmark; also nieces and nephews in Denmark.
Mr. Block was preceded in death by two sons, Robert and Kenneth; a daughter, Mildred; parents in Denmark; a sister and six brothers.
Burial was in Oakwood cemetery, Austin, with Rev. Willard in charge of committal services.
