Obituary-Hyde

Jane Lane Hyde was born April 3, 1844, in County Cork, Ireland. When 9 years old, she came with her parents to America and settled at Glen Falls, in New York state. Shortly after, they moved to Fulton, Ill., but the tide of western immigration caught them and in June 1855, she landed in what is now Mitchell, coming in a prairie schoonor, and located within a few rods of the very spot from which Saturday,

September 5th, her spirit passed to the great beyond. She attended the Mitchell school, and later she taught in Jenkins township.

January 1, 1863, she was united in marriage to George W. Hyde. To this union, were born six children: Mrs. Ella Winter, of Mason City, Ora L., of Norfolk, Nebr., Mrs. Adah Hyde and Mrs. Dr. Poole, of St. Paul, Daniel L. of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Mrs. Grace Schulte, who preceded her mother to the other shore by 10 years.

Mrs. Winter is seriously ill in a St. Paul hospital; the other four were present to pay the last tribute of love to her, who gave them life.

Though always interested in municipal and national affairs, Mrs. Hyde was more particularly a home woman--doing for her own and immediate community. She kept her mind bright and active, and her memory was remarkable. She was a most interesting and companionable visitor, a good neighbor, a filial daughter, a true friend, and a loving, self-sacrificing mother. Her husband and children rise up and call her blessed.

Weep not that her toil is over.

Weep not that her race is run;

God grant we may rest calmly

When our life’s work is done.

When a young girl, she united with the Congregational church, and was a faithful member until the last.

Her funeral was held from church, Monday, September 7, 1914, conducted by Rev. Coon, of Washington, Iowa, a relative and old time friend of the family, assisted by Rev. Van Swearingen. She was laid to rest in Oak View cemetery.
