Mrs. Eunice A. Holbrook died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chas. Sweney, January 17, 1889. The deceased was a daughter of Capt. Silas Newcomb and was born March 29, 1812, in Greenwich, Mass.
In 1815 the family moved to Madison and there she was wedded March 9, 1830, to G.N. Holbrook, and from 1838 to 1851 they resided in Illinois and Wisconsin. They then removed to Clayton county, Ia., but in 1856 came to Mitchell county and settled on their place in Douglass township. In 1881 Mrs. Holbrook moved to Osage and continued to reside here until her death. Her husband preceded her to the grave several years ago.
Mrs. Holbrook was a very intelligent woman and held in high esteem by all who knew her; she was a true christian and feared not to go when the angel of death came to still her heart. The funeral services were held at the residence of her daughter, Ms. Chas. Sweney, January 19, and her remains were placed in the Osage cemetery beside her deceased husband. The funeral sermon was delivered by Rev. AA. Thayer.
