Herman Culver was born at Northeast, Penn., June 2, 1813, where he spent his boyhood years, living there till he attained the age of 25, when he removed to Sherman, N.Y., at which place he was united in the hold bonds of wedlock to Rhoda J. Cornish, September 5, 1838.

After residence of five years in Sherman he removed to Munroeville, Huron county, Ohio, as one of the early pioneers of that section. After a short residence at Munroeville, he again moved westward settling in Boone county, Ill., from which place he moved in October, 1955, to Deerfield, Chickasaw county, Ia., being among the early settlers of that county. After a residence of nearly twenty years his health failing him, he sold his farm and moved to Charles City, Ia., where he resided until a short time before his death, when he made it his home in Osage.

His death occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E.C. Loveless, January 17, 1889, after a short illness of only about two weeks.

Mr. Culver was an ernest consistent christian; having experienced christianity at Northeast, Pa., at the early age of 23, he united with the Freewill Baptist church of that place; afterward joining the Christian church at Deerfield on his removal to that place, at the time of his death being a member of the Christian church at Charles City, Ia.

Mr. Culver leaves a wife, two sons and six daughters to mourn his loss, all of whom were present at the time of his death except one son in north Dakota and one daughter in southern Kansas.

Note: Burial is in the Osage City cemetery
