Michael L. Wold, 61, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 13th, 2020.
A public visitation will be held on Sunday, May 17th, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, 207 South School Street, St. Ansgar, Iowa. Due to current social distancing recommendations, please be aware that family members of Michael may not be present during the visitation.
A private funeral service will be held at a later time.
Michael was born on April 26, 1959 in Osage, Iowa, the son of Richard “Mike” and Janet Wold of St. Ansgar. Michael was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar.
He attended St. Ansgar Community Schools, graduating in 1977. He then attended Waldorf College, graduating in 1979 with an A.A. degree. Following college, he returned to St. Ansgar to join the family business, Wold Rim & Wheel.
Michael enjoyed his bachelor years watching NASCAR, being active with the wrecker service, and driving the semi to make deliveries to some of his favorite customers. He was also a volunteer with the St. Ansgar Fire Department, having been a member of the department for 36 years at the time of his passing. Many family gatherings and holiday meals were interrupted by his pager, but he never thought twice about running out the door to help someone else in need.
In 1998, Michael’s neighbor girl knocked on his door and invited him over for dinner. Little did he know that invitation would lead him to the greatest role of his life – being a Dad and a Grandpa. In 1999, a family was formed, and Michael was very proud of his new role, always going above and beyond to support his girls and his grandkids.
On June 24, 2011, Michael adopted his three daughters, Toni, Michelle, and Jessy, and officially became their “real Dad”.
Michael was endlessly proud of being a grandpa to Eric, Austin, Alex, Javan, Jordyn, Sophia, Teegan, and Ty. Some of his happiest moments were spent with his grandkids.
Michael is survived by his daughters: Toni (Scott) Kreitzer, Mason City, Iowa; Michelle (Jason) Hills, Slater, Iowa; and Jessy (Ben) White, Polk City, Iowa; His grandchildren: Eric Rysavy, Des Moines, Iowa; Austin Rysavy, Mason City, Iowa; Alex Hills, Ankeny, Iowa; Javan Hills, Slater, Iowa; Jordyn Picht and Sophia Kreitzer, Mason City, Iowa; Teegan and Ty White, Polk City, Iowa. His parents: Richard “Mike” and Janet Wold, St. Ansgar, Iowa; His siblings: Kalvin (Lisa) Wold, St. Ansgar, Iowa; Ivan (Melinda) Wold, St. Ansgar, Iowa; Sonja (Scott) Steege, Denver, Iowa; Dana (Katie) Wold, St. Ansgar, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Ansgar Fire Department or St. Ansgar Rescue Squad in honor of Michael. Cards may be directed to his family at 1401 Limestone Drive, Mason City, Iowa 50401.
Michael was the best Dad and Grandpa we could ever ask for. Our lives are better because of him and our lives will not be the same without him.
