Obituary

Gerald “Jerry” Wolterman, 91, of Charles City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 22, 2020. His beloved wife of 68 years, Lorraine, was at his side.

Due to COVID-19, no funeral will be held at this time. A Celebration of Life is will be held in the future. Burial will be at the St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery in Fairfax, Minnesota.

Jerry, as he was known to his friends, is survived by Lorraine; daughters: Jenean (John Reveland) Wolterman and JoEllen (Bruce Nagel) Wolterman; son, James (Kimberly) Wolterman; sisters: Jeanette Krebs, Maribeth (Lyle) U’Ren and Joleen (Dave) U’Ren; grandchildren: Alan Reveland, Jessica (Roger Dietrich) Reveland-Dietrich, Andrew (Megan) Wolterman and Kathryn Wolterman; great-grandsons: Johnny and Samson Reveland; and many loving nieces, nephews, godchildren, extended family and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents: Frank and Theresa (Determan) Wolterman; sisters: Clarice (Jim) Murphy, Rosemary (Jim) Kappenman, Marilyn (Clarence) Wendinger, Shirley (John) Fitzgerald and Muriel Wolterman; and brothers: Duane (Marie) and Stanley (Barbara).

Jerry grew up on a farm in a large family which included eight sisters and two brothers, and was interested in farming his whole life. His work career was mainly in the construction industry, where he worked for Fullerton Lumber Company and Fleetwood Homes, and then founded Wolterman Construction Company in Charles City following the tornado in 1968. He finally retired at age 75 after working as a salesman for J & J Welding. He was active in the community with the Knights of Columbus, and was most proud of being President of the Immaculate Conception School Board.

Jerry loved to dance, play cards and read, but his biggest passion was spending time with his family and friends. He was known for his infectious smile, quick wit, kind spirit and love of the Lord.

The family would like to thank Dr. David Schrodt, the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home staff and hospice team for their compassionate care of Jerry and support for the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial be given to the Immaculate Conception Catholic School Fund.
