Obituary for Donald E Rieken

Donald Rieken, 89, of Osage, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2019 at the Mitchell County Regional Hospital in Osage.

Donald Edward Rieken was born on February 20, 1930, son of Edward and Gertrude (Arndt) Rieken. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran in Riceville.

Don enjoyed working on the farm. His time was spent raising both crops and livestock; which included tending to hogs, chickens and milking 20 head of dairy cows by hand. He also spent plenty of time cutting wood. His love of farming took him to the Riceville Sale Barn, where he worked for ten years.

His hobbies included: playing cards (especially 500), putting together jigsaw puzzles, fishing for northern and bass in the Wapsi River and hunting for ducks, pheasants and fox. During retirement Don enjoyed attending dances all over Minnesota and Wisconsin, dancing the polka and waltz.

Survivors include his sister, Shirley Rieken of Osage, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his loving dog, Sophie.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Doris (Mike) Steffen, a niece, aunts, uncles and cousins.
