Visitation for Daniel “Boone” Hockens will be held from 4-7 P.M. Tuesday May 21, 2019 at the Hindt Hudek Funeral Home in Riceville, Iowa. There will be a private family burial at Wayne Cemetery, McIntire, Iowa. Following the burial there will be a celebration of life Wednesday, May 22nd from 12 noon until ?? at Goosey’s in McIntire.
Daniel Wayne “Boone” Hockens, age 75, of McIntire, Iowa, passed away May 18, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus, in Rochester, Minnesota.
He was born June 14, 1943, to Howard and Florence (Butterfield) Hockens in McIntire. Boone attended school there until the age of 15 when he began working for the railroad. He also served in the Army National Guard for six years.
Boone was united in marriage to Lura Kozak on November 27, 1966 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Riceville and together they had four children; Deb, Dan, Scott and Jeanie. Boone worked for Chicago Northwestern and Union Pacific Railroad for 38 years retiring in 2004.
He loved the outdoors and spent much of his time hunting, fishing, trapping and riding his 4-wheeler through the woods often stopping to visit friends and family. His dog “Old Boy” was usually by his side. He also loved gardening and planting trees.
He is survived by his wife Lura of McIntire, children: Deb (Josh) Ferrie of Cresco, IA, Dan (Kristy) Hockens of LeRoy, MN and Scott (Wendy Wetherall) of Little Cedar, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Megan Hockens, Amber (Paul) Woltmann, Jackson Hockens, Ashley Ferrie, Allison Ferrie, Amanda Hockens and John Ellis. He is also survived by seven siblings: Sharon (Leo) Runde, Judy (Marvin) Hanna Kim (Rick) Derry and Lori (Mark) Kramer all of McIntire, Nancy (Herb) Robertson of Mpls, MN, Sindee (Mark) Koenigs of Myer, IA and John (Connie) Holmen of Riceville, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter; Jeanie and his step father Al Holmen.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the donors choice.
