OBITUARY.
BURKE
Miss Mary Mahoney was born In Hinchenbrook county, Canada. July 9, 1828. She lived there until her marriage to Edmund Burke, on April 2, 1857. The young wedded couple came immediately to Mitchell county Iowa, and settled on the homestead of 160 acres, which is now the beautiful Wapsie Valley Stock Farm where their son, Thomas Burke resides.
A family of six children was born to Mr. and Mrs. Burke, all of whom are now living here, except one daughter, Kate, who died at the age of 12 years.
The children are John, Thomas, and Will Burke, Mrs. Mary Richmond and Miss Kellie Burke.
In 1888 Mr. and Mrs. Burke moved from the farm to Riceville, and Mr. Burke died June 8, 1889.
Mrs. Burke had been feeling real well of late and her sudden death at her home in Riceville last Friday evening, Jan. 20, 1905, came as a shock to her children and many friends.
Rev. Father O’Brien conducted the services, holding solemn high mass at the Catholic church, Monday morning at half past ten. A large gathering of people were present from all over the country, showing the high esteem in which Mrs. Burke was held. The floral offerings were beautiful.
The whole community joins the children in sympathy over the loss of this good mother. --Riceville Recorder.
