Obituary--

Stacyville, Iowa - Rita Niess Schrandt was born October 3, 1928, to Joseph and Celia (Adams) Niess, the eighth child in a family of twelve.

She passed away peacefully on October 25, 2018, at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home, where she resided. Rita was baptized in the Sacred Heart Church, Meyer, Iowa.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville with Father Raymond Burkle presiding.

Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, with a rosary at 4:00. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar is in charge of arrangements.

Her childhood was spent on the family farm near Stacyville, attending grade school in Meyer and graduating from Visitation High School in Stacyville in 1946.

While she was employed at the Stacyville Savings Bank, she met, and married Wilfred Schrandt on June 10, 1948. This union was blessed with four children. After the children were in school, Rita returned to work at the bank. Later she also worked as the Visitation School secretary.

An active member of the Visitation Church and Stacyville community, she belonged to the Christian Womens Organization, Catholic Order of Foresters, American Legion Auxiliary and the Stacyville Community Nursing Home Board. After her retirement, she volunteered many hours at the Nursing Home, at church, the legion auxiliary and assisting wherever she was needed.

Rita loved life and enjoyed being with her family and friends. Playing bridge was a favorite pastime, as was watching her favorite team, the Twins. She loved to travel and visit her family where ever they may be. She enjoyed short vacations with her sisters where there were games and reminiscing. Her travels took her to Germany to visit relatives, and Italy with her family.

Five years ago Rita decided to take up residence at the Stacyville Nursing Home. Often seen doing her 45 minute walk every morning and afternoon. To catch her when she was not busy she offered a schedule when it was a good time to visit or call. Besides her passion for walking, she was an avid reader, crossword and jumbo puzzle addict.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilfred; daughter, Virginia; brothers, Edmund, Francis, Gustav, Matthew and Joseph; sisters, Helen Bena, Sister Catherine Niess, Mary Anderson, Margaret Tray and Celia Guy.

Those left to mourn are sons, Charles (Beverly) of St. Paul, Mn., Richard (Sue) of Eagle, ID., daughter, Marie (Kelly) Hendrix of Eagle, ID; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; sister, Joan (Deo) Koenings of St. Ansgar, Ia.; sisters-in-law, Delores (Gus) Niessand Dorothy (Matt) Niess of Osage, Ia.; many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Stacyville Community Nursing Home or Visitation Catholic Church.
