November 24; Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville, IowaDuane Streit, DVM, of Carroll, Iowa, died at home on October 31. Duane was the son of John and Bonita Streit. He attended Visitation Catholic elementary school in Stacyville, Iowa, and St. Ansgar High School. During those years Duane was active in 4H and the Future Farmers of America and played the trumpet for a time.
He went on to Iowa State University and was a proud member of Alpha Gamma Rho Agricultural Fraternity (where he made use his swing-dance skills), St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Student Center, and enjoyed cultural events at ISU. Duane was admitted to the College of Veterinary Medicine after two years of undergraduate studies and worked in large animal veterinary medicine after earning his DVM degree, first in Fairmont, MN, and then in Carroll, IA. He worked hard to establish a diagnostic microbiology lab for his clinic. A chronic illness led to disability.
He married Beth Fay in Carroll, Iowa, in 1992. The couple raised their two sons, John and Nicholas, in Carroll. The sons are currently enrolled at ISU.
Though the last two decades of Duane’s life were affected by his health, he will be remembered by his family for his tireless efforts on the family farm as a high schooler and young adult, taking upon himself remodeling or construction projects of a seasoned builder. He was highly motivated and strong-willed, and challenged everyone around him to give their best effort. Duane was an engaging conversationalist. He loved history, genealogy, current affairs and was an avid reader. His hands created remarkable drawings in his high school years.
Duane is survived by his: wife, Beth; children John and Nicholas; siblings David, Robert (Carol), Linda (Ian) Davies, Janet Streit, Judy Streit, Karen Bauer and John (Melissa) Streit, and many nieces and nephews and one great-nephew and an expected great-niece.
He is reunited in eternal life with his parents and one sister, Mary Rose. His family trusts that on the other side, Duane will have restored to him his boundless energy, laughter and gift for making things happen.
Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar, Iowa, is assisting with funeral plans. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville, IA, on Saturday, November 24, at 11 am. The visitation will precede the funeral, beginning at 9:30 am.
