OSAGE, IOWA – Richard Allen Hansen, 77, of Osage and formally of St. Ansgar, Iowa, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2018 in Rochester, Minnesota.
A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with Rev. Mark Squire officiating; burial in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar, at a later date.

Richard Allan Hansen, 77, of Osage, Iowa, and formerly of Anaheim and La Habra, CA and St. Ansgar, Iowa, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2018, at Mayo St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota after an extended illness.
His funeral service will be held this Thursday, October 18th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, Iowa with visitation beginning at 10:00 and services at 11:00. His internment will be at a later date.
Dick was born on July 11, 1941 in Osage, Iowa, to Wilma (Beyer) and Lloyd Hansen. Immediately following graduation from St. Ansgar High School in 1959, Dick enlisted in the Marines. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton, California, with the Delta Company 7th Engineers where he worked as a truck driver/mechanic.
After four years in the Marines, he was united in marriage to Susan Strode in 1964. They were blessed with two children, Dana Susan Schauster and Mark Allan Hansen. They later divorced. In 1983, he married Helen Warmington. He returned to Iowa after their divorce and has resided in Osage the last four years.
After his military service, Dick was employed in California as a mechanic for CL Pharris and then Laura Scudders where he later became a driver, working there for 22 years. He then worked for Bell Brand Foods and later Lucky’s after which time he retired. After his retirement, he traveled extensively in his motor home visiting National Parks and Canada. Dick enjoyed traveling and especially the many times spent at Lake Havasu, AZ. He often spoke of a memorable fishing trip to Alaska with friends.
Dick was a Lifelong Member of the American Legion with memberships in California and most recently in Osage, Iowa. He was a proud Marine Veteran. During his final days he was deeply moved by the Flag Ceremony given to him by the staff at Mayo St. Mary’s Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Wilma, brother-in-law Jerry Jordahl and infant granddaughter Kristen Kay Hansen.
He leaves behind his sister, Gloria Jordahl, children Dana and Mark and his wife Hope Upham; Step-children Karen Van Heeswyk, Tom Jeanneret, and Christina Ram; Grandchildren Michael, Christopher, and Brandon Hansen, Anthony Upham and Brandon Garcia; great-grandchildren Matthew and Rylie; Niece Kari Fomon, her husband David and their children Kristin and Joshua, Nephew Erik Jordahl, his wife Heather and children Taylor, Nicholas, Caroline and Owen. Also surviving are several cousins and many devoted friends.
If you choose, memorials may be made to the Richard Hansen Estate and the family will distribute funds to charities that were important to him. Condolences may be sent to Gloria Jordahl, 112 N. Jefferson, St. Ansgar, IA 50472.
