Darlene Kasel, age 76, of Osage, Iowa, died Friday, August 24, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at Sacred Heart Parish Hall in Osage with Father Raymond Burkle presiding. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Osage. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Darlene was born November 27, 1941, in Austin, Minnesota, the daughter of Loren and Alvina (Stephani) Salisbury. She graduated from Pacelli High School in Austin, Minnesota in 1959. Darlene married Paul Kasel on June 27. 1962 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin, Minnesota. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and VFW Auxiliary of Osage.
For many years Darlene was a in home daycare provider. Every time her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren walked into a room where she was, her face lit up with such joy. Darlene enjoyed dancing, polka music, going to the Casino, playing cards with her special friends, going to parades and county fairs. She especially enjoyed watching her grandson Joshua’s Figure 8 races. Family and friends will miss her most for the way she made them laugh, and for her big heart.
Darlene is survived by two daughters, Linda Kasel of Elma, and Margaret Dunn and husband Roger of Alta Vista; by a son, Robert Kasel and wife Karen of Osage; grandchildren, Joshua (Rayna Freebury) Dunn and Sara Dunn of Alta Vista; great-grandchildren, Lexi and Paisley Dunn of Alta Vista; special friend Jerry Groesbeck; brother Eugene Salisbury of Austin, Minnesota; sister, Madonna Hemann of Osage, Iowa; numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Paul in 1999; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
