Arlene Balsley, age 90, of Charles City and formerly of Osage, died Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018, at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with Pastor Julie Schubert officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Arlene was born November 26, 1927, on the family farm near Mason City, the daughter of Leslie J. and Opal (Beery) Harris. She attended schools in Manly and Rock Falls. Arlene was united in marriage to Leonard Balsley on April 5, 1951, two daughters were born to this union. They later divorced.
She was employed at the Reblow Café in Manly and at the Holiday Inn in Mason City. Arlene liked sewing, gardening, and canning the produce from her gardens, for many years. She enjoyed baking, even baking two wedding cakes, as well as cooking, embroidering and crocheting.
Arlene is survived by her two daughters, Linda (Rod) Dishman of Charles City and Dorothy Shoars of Kensett; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bernadine Lifka of Sterling, Illinois and Illa June Fuchs of Byron, Minnesota; and sister-in-law, Thelma Harris of Osage.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Charolette Klemesrud; her brother, Richard Harris; and by a son-in-law, Smith J. Shoars.
