Alan C. “Al” Roemig, age 79, of Osage, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center Emergency Room in Osage. Cremation has taken place.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage with Rev. Cindy S. Krause officiating. Inurnment will be at the Osage Cemetery. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Al was born January 22, 1939, in Middle Amana, Iowa, to Henry and Marie (Unkel) Roemig. He attended grade school and high school in Amana. After graduation, he went on to attend the University of Iowa prior to starting his career.
On November 14, 1959, he married Dolores Hess. Together, they had three children, Scott, Jessica, and Kristina. Al and Dee enjoyed traveling and hunting together as well as spending time with family and friends. The family also operated a 9,000 laying hen operation.
Al served 38 years as a Fish and Wildlife Law Enforcement Officer for the state of Iowa. During his career, he was on the Department Pistol Team for 25 years and won many first place honors at the Game Wardens Competition. After retiring, he enjoyed delivering Winnebago motorhomes throughout the U.S. and Canada. Al’s hobbies included raising his family and caring for God’s creation through his and Dee’s tree farm along the Cedar River.
Al and Dee planted oak and walnut trees, native prairie grasses, and wildlife food plots. Some of his favorite times were spent hunting elk in Colorado, hunting deer and turkey at his farm, fishing, golfing, and trapping.
Al is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Dee Roemig of Osage; daughters, Jessi (Keith) Markham of Gig Harbor, Washington and Kris (Greg) Larsen of Story City; his six grandchildren, Bridget, Abby, Joseph, Ryan, Sammi, and Jenna; three siblings, Jeannie (Warren) Hinzman, Les (Peg) Roemig, and Marlene (Mike) Kloubec; and several other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his son, Scott Roemig in 1979; and his parents.
