Dorothy Pahl, 96, passed away March 13, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Society in St. Ansgar, Iowa.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Mark Squire officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar. Visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Dorothy Ida Wilhelmina Pagel was born May 8, 1921 (Mother's Day) to Henry and Ida (Groth) Pagel on the family farm southwest of St. Ansgar, Iowa. She was baptized June 5, 1921 at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Grafton by Rev. Gemaehlich and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith April 14, 1935 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar by Rev. Paul Brammer. Dorothy attended Newburg School #5 and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1939.
Dorothy married George Pahl October 12, 1941 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar. They lived on the Pahl family farm east of Grafton. She moved to St. Ansgar in 1954 and worked at East End Café, Gambles and finally as a bookkeeper at Cedar Valley Electric Cooperative, retiring in 1986. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, reading and researching family history.
Dorothy was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar where she was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Grace Circle.
Dorothy is survived by two sons: Norman (Carol) Pahl, St. Ansgar and Howard (Joanne) Pahl, Frederic, Wisconsin; six grandchildren: Steven (Kelli) Holst, Albert Lea, MN, Scott (Kim) Holst, Wabasha, MN, Karla (Jay) Doty, Marion, IA, Laura Pahl, Northfield, MN, Genean (Jon) Bohl, Misawa, Japan and Jonathan Pahl, Mason City, IA; 11 great-grandchildren, Rylee, Nick and Jenna Holst, Paige and Parker Boyum, Phoebe Holst, Cole, Brendan and Lauren Doty, Daniel and Kimberly Bohl; one great-great-granddaughter, Sadie Holst; son-in-law Galen Holst, Lyle, MN, and sister-in-law Luella Pagel, Grafton; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; daughter Dorinda Holst; son David Pahl; parents Henry and Ida Pagel; sisters Alfrieda Crooks and Elsie Rachut; brothers, John Pagel and George Pagel; sister-in-law, Rosie Pagel; brother-in-laws, Henry Crooks and Arthur Rachut; and special friend Guy Pike.
