Dean Allen Gunsallus, age 88, of Osage, died Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage with Rev. Cindy S. Krause officiating. Burial will be at the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Dean was born March 23, 1929, at Osage, Iowa, the son of James A. and Lola M. (Fehr) Gunsallus. He graduated from Little Cedar High School.
On May 2, 1953, he married Phyllis Maxine Hutzell at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage. To this union, four children were born. Dean was involved with farming throughout his life. He loved to dance and was known by many as “Dean, Dean, the dancing machine”. Dean enjoyed fishing, hunting, and attending steam engine shows. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Dean is survived by his children, Terry (Shawne) Gunsallus of Austin, Minnesota, Diane (Keith) Wright of Osage, Carol (Mike) Nicholson of Osage, and Nancy Corcoran (Larry Meyer) of Rushford, Minnesota; 15 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Rosensweig of Casper, Wyoming, Shirley Fiser of Charles City, and Ruby Fjetland of Harmony, Minnesota; brother, James Gunsallus of Osage; significant other, Veronica Goodale of Manly; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis Maxine Gunsallus in 1996; brothers, William “Keith” Gunsallus and Robert “Bob” Gunsallus; and sisters, Helen Jean in infancy, Betty Kozak, and Ann Feldt.
