Darwin “Dar” Thompson, age 64, of Osage, Iowa, passed away Monday, November 13, 2017, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 17, 2017, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage with Rev. Cindy S. Krause officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage. Following the funeral service, cremation will take place, with inurnment at the Osage Cemetery at a later date.
Darwin “Dar” Thompson was born February 21, 1953, in Osage, Iowa, the son of Dean and Irene (Mathiesen) Thompson. He graduated from Osage Community High School in 1971, and then studied auto mechanics at Calmar Vocational Technical School.
On February 23, 1974, Dar married Geri Schoenborn in Osage. He was employed as an auto mechanic until 1980 when he started working at Wallace Business Forms in Osage. He later became plant manager at Tops Business Forms, a position he held until his retirement. Dar served on the Osage City Council and was a former member of the Osage Rotary Club. Dar had a passion for cars, and in earlier years was actively involved in stock car racing. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and entertaining family and friends at their home on the Cedar River. Dar always had a project, with his shop in Osage being a retirement project. Most of all, Dar loved being with his family, and treasured time spent with his children and grandchildren.
Dar is survived by his wife, Geri Thompson of Osage; his son, Kyle (Ashley) Thompson and their daughters, Riley and Savannah, of Cedar Falls; his daughter, Erin (Jason) Salier and their children, Nora, Josie and Cole, of Lisbon; his mother, Irene Thompson of Osage; brothers, Douglas Thompson, Dennis (Ginger) Thompson, and David (Dana) Thompson, all of Osage; sister, Debra (Bob) Barclay of Mitchell; sisters-in-law, Carol Grimm of Osage, and Mary Kay Schoenborn of Clear Lake; brother-in-law, Ed Schoenborn of Santee, California; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dean Thompson in 2008; his father-in-law, Don Schoenborn in 2005, and his mother-in-law, Claire Schoenborn in 2009; and brother-in-law, Ralph Grimm in 2002.
