OBITUARY--Died August 11, 2017
Cody William Lloyd Squier, age 22, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, died Friday, August 11, 2017, as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 17, 2017, at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville, Iowa, with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. Burial will be at St. Ansgar Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville.
Cody was born September 5, 1994, in Austin, Minnesota, the son of Brad and Pam (Theobald) Squier and was named after his two grandfathers. He attended St. Ansgar schools and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 2013. Cody then went on to receive a degree in computer technology and certificate in web developer and game design. Cody loved attending school, furthering his education and learning new things in general. He worked in the IT department at Hormel and as salesmen for Austin’s Hometown Sears Store, which he enjoyed.
Cody was an awesome young man with his whole life ahead of him. He had a good heart and would do anything for anyone. Cody was quiet yet spunky. He loved picking on his sister and his two nieces. Cody was an avid Breaking Bad and Chicago Bears fan and a Pokeman enthusiast. He enjoyed playing video games, going to rock concerts, Fantasy Football, and putting together Japanese action figures. Cody also enjoyed playing with his two dogs, Oreo and Bentley.
Cody is survived by his parents, Brad (Pam) Squier; brother, Cory (Andrea) Squier; sister, Katie Squier; nieces, Alyssa and Peyton; grandmothers, Joyce Squier and Delores Theobald; aunts, Lori (Steve) Koenigs, Wendy (Ed) Hansen, Laura (Mario) Garza and Krista (Zach) Nelson; uncles, Kevin (Lynn) Theobald, Brian (Daneen) Theobald, and Bill (Sue) Theobald; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his sister, April Squier; grandfathers, William “Bill” Squier and Lloyd Theobald.

ZUMBROTA, Minn. -- A St. Ansgar man was killed Friday in a crash north of Zumbrota.
The Minnesota State Patrol identified him as Cody William Lloyd Squier, 22. He was a passenger in a car being driven by Jacob P. Nelson, 22, of St. Ansgar. The crash was reported about 6:50 p.m. on Highway 52 at the intersection with Highway 57.
Troopers said the car collided with a semi being driven by Christopher J. Small, 54, of Coon Rapids, Minn. The semi was northbound on Highway 52. Nelson's car was stopped at a sign sign at Highway 57 and then crossed southbound Highway 52 traffic and failed to yield at the median yield sign, pulling into the path of the semi.
Nelson was also injured and transported to Mayo Clinic-St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
The crash remains under investigation.

News Story--Iowa man dead after U.S. 52 crash on Friday night

Aug 12, 2017HADER — An Iowa man died Friday night in a car accident while attempting to cross four lanes of traffic on U.S. Highway 52 just north of Zumbrota.
According to Minnesota State Patrol's incident report, Jacob Paul Nelson, 22, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, stopped at a stop sign on Minnesota Highway 57, waiting to cross U.S. 52 just before 7 p.m. He eventually crossed southbound traffic, but "failed to yield at the median yield sign pulling out in front of the semi" that was traveling northbound, according to State Patrol's report.
The semi driven by Christopher John Small, 54, of Coon Rapids, collided with Nelson's vehicle on the passenger side while traveling at highway speeds.
Cody William Lloyd Squier, 22, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, was riding in Nelson's passenger seat. He was declared dead at the scene.
Small was not injured, while Nelson was transported to Saint Mary's Hospital in Rochester with non-life threatening injuries; a condition update was not immediately available on Saturday.
The incident caused northbound traffic to be detoured for more than an hour while authorities investigated. The Goodhue County Sheriff's Office and Zumbrota Police Department assisted at the scene.
