J. Marshall Harvey Korte, age 63, of New Haven, died Sunday July 23, 2017, at his daughter’s home surrounded by family, after a short battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 28, 2017, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage with Pastor Art Zewert officiating. Following the funeral service, cremation will take place. Inurnment will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday August 8, 2017, at the Osage Cemetery, with Military Honors conducted by the Osage American Legion Post 278. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

In lieu of flowers, monetary donations can be left to the J Marshall Korte Scholarship Fund.

J Marshall Korte was born December 31, 1953, in Britt, Iowa, the son of Frederick and Marilyn (Hansen) Korte. He was later joined by three sisters, Connie, Gisele and Natalie and an infant brother, Dudley that lived for one day. He moved with his family to a farm near New Haven in 1960. Marshall graduated from Osage High School in 1972. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army from 1973 to 1976.

Marshall was united in marriage to Rosemary Lybarger on November 25, 1977, to this union a daughter, Stephanie, was born. The couple later divorced. He spent many years farming in North Iowa and for many years filled his extra time driving semi. He was a part owner of a machining business for about 20 years, until the last few years, when he worked for J&K Construction, which he really enjoyed. Marshall enjoyed many years of racing and spending time with family and friends.

He loved riding his Harley all over the United States. Marshall was a very active member of the Osage American Legion – Post 278, where he is a Past and the current Post Commander, American Legion Riders and the Patriot Guard.

In 2007, he met Kristi Badker, who has been very special to him, recently becoming engaged. Many will cherish the fond memories of Marshall, always encouraging those around him to “keep smiling”. He always had a kind word to share and would drop everything to help anyone in need.

Marshall is survived by his fiancée, Kristi Badker of Osage; daughter, Stephanie (Scott) Taets and their five children: Madison, Thurston, Makayla, Desmund and Ella, all of Osage; Kristi’s children, Joe (Linda) Blake, April Marks, Matthew Hemann, Stephanie Hemann, Emma (Marcus) King and Sarah Hemann, along with their children; mother, Marilyn Korte of Waverly; father, Frederick (Norma) Korte of Arlington; sisters, Connie (Denny) Koehler of Waverly, Gisele Heinzerling of Farmington, Minnesota, Natalie (Charles) Shea of Elkader, Jennifer (Jason) Schumacher of Arlington, Jessica (Trent) Jared of Manchester; an aunt, an uncle and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by an infant brother, Dudley Korte; paternal grandparents, Frederick and Cornelia (Lutjens) Korte; maternal grandparents, Harvey and Evelyn (Christensen) Hansen.
