Harold (Harry) Isaac succumbed to health issues surrounded by his family on May 3, 2017.
Harry is survived by his wife, Kay (Collins), six children: Verlyn (Kim), Dyersville, Iowa; John (Tammy), Phoenix, Arizona; Mina (Bob) Smith, Rochester, Minnesota; Ellen (Dean) Fadness, Rochester, Minnesota; Aaron (Yoko), San Diego, California; Naomi (Mike) Steffen, Cascade, Iowa. Harry is also survived by his nine grandchildren, whom have been the light of his life for the past 25 years: Nicole Isaac, Holly Isaac, Alison Isaac, Drew Isaac, Emily Smith, Brooke Isaac, Zachary Smith, Willow & Warrick Fadness; sister, Lorraine (Boots) Meitner, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son Joseph, his parents John and Elizabeth (Lizzy) Isaac; sisters, Esther (Pat) Mayer and Bertilla (Bert) Pint; and brother Verlyn.
Harry Isaac was born February 27, 1940, Osage, Iowa. He graduated from Visitation High School, Stacyville, Iowa in 1959. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Army where he honorably served until 1961. Upon his return home, he began his career working at Oliver, then White Farm Equipment, Charles City, Iowa. Harold eventually met Kathleen (Kay) Collins at The Terp, Austin, Minnesota. They married on February 8, 1964.
Harry loved his family, was an avid sports fan, appreciated the arts, and was an advocate for education. He also very much enjoyed playing cards and visiting the casino. His final gift was that of donating his body to science.
After leaving White Farm in 1990, Harry began working for Co-Op Oil Company, Osage, Iowa. He also began driving school bus for hundreds of children, his true joy. His biggest sporting heroes were his local St. Ansgar Saints as well as any sporting team his children or grandchildren participated in. Because of his sportsmanship and support of all things STA, he was recognized and inducted into the St. Ansgar Athletes Hall of Fame in 2007.
Harry continued driving school bus until his health would not allow him to do so. He was the mayor of Stacyville; serving in this position from 1994 until again, he succumbed to health issues. This was another position he was thrilled to be given. He was delighted to be given the opportunity to serve his community in many ways. Harry never fully retired; he absolutely enjoyed being involved too much, to ever do so.
Harry was a passionate man. He and his wife, Kay, not only raised 6 children of their own, they hosted multiple foreign exchange students throughout the years. Students from Germany, Czech Republic, Denmark, Poland, and Finland. After these students experienced life in Stacyville, and returned to their home countries; Harry and Kay traveled to each of these countries for visits. Harry loved to travel. They traveled far and wide to visit their children, grandchildren and exchange students.
Harry will be profoundly missed by many. Most of all, he will be incredibly missed by his family. A special thank you to St. Croix Hospice and Good Samaritan Society, St. Ansgar, Iowa, for their loving care and support of Harry.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations made to St. Croix Hospice, 951 North Linn Ave, Suite 5, New Hampton, IA 50659.
