Alan Ganshert, age 71, of Osage, died Monday, May 8, 2017, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage, following many years of declining health due to Alzheimer’s Disease.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 11, 2017, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly with Pastor Linda Prestholt officiating. Visitation with the body present for viewing will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage. Inurnment will be at Manly City Cemetery with military honors at the grave by Osage V.F.W. Post 7920 and Osage American Legion Post 278.
Alan was born March 26, 1946, in Shullsburg, Wisconsin, the son of Lawrence and Anna (Graham) Ganshert. He graduated from Gratiot High School in Gratiot, Wisconsin. During the Vietnam War, Alan served in the U.S. Air Force as a mechanic, stationed in the Philippines and Thailand. Years later he joined the Army National Guard, serving out of Dubuque, Iowa and Platteville, Wisconsin. He then joined the Naval Reserves (Seabees) in Dubuque, serving his country for 21½ years.
Alan married Gloria Kobernusz on June 9, 1973, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly. He worked for Royster Clark, a chemical plant that produces anhydrous ammonia in East Dubuque, Illinois, before moving to Osage where Alan worked for R. R. Donnelly until his retirement. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Osage V.F.W. and Osage American Legion. Alan enjoyed fishing, stamp and coin collecting, repairing things, traveling and older style country music.
Alan is survived by his wife of 43 years, Gloria Ganshert of Osage; his son, Ryan (Charissa Holley) Ganshert of Riverview, Florida; brothers and sisters, Bernard (Merna) Ganshert of Gordon, Nebraska, Cam (Gary) Von Glahn of Shullsburg, Wisconsin, Bill Ganshert of Shullsburg, Wisconsin, Eloise (Merlin) Andrews of Pound, Wisconsin, Debby (Gary) Smith of Shullsburg, Wisconsin, Vicky (Roger) Jackson of Browntown, Wisconsin, Becky (Dave) Zuberbuhler of Monroe, Wisconsin, Mary (Dick) Campbell of Rewey, Wisconsin, and Lorelei (Dale Brink) Ganshert of Leadmine, Wisconsin; aunt, Florence Byrne of Shullsburg, Wisconsin; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Anna Ganshert; brother, Joe in 2005; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Elton and Nova Kobernusz.
