COOK, Nova I. (Chesnut, Kobernusz) 1927-2017

MANLY, IOWA - Nova I. Kobernusz Cook, 89, of Osage, formerly of Manly, died Saturday (April 22, 2017) at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday (April 26, 2017) at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 428 West Walnut, Manly, with Rev. Linda Johnson Prestholt officiating.

Burial will be in the Manly Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church.

Nova I. Chesnut was born Aug. 5, 1927, in Union, Arkansas, the daughter of Thomas Elbert and Zelma Ruth (Beard) Chesnut. She attended school in Arkansas, before the family moved to Garner where she graduated from Garner High School. After graduation, Nova attended and graduated from La James Beauty College.

Nova married Elton Kobernusz on Aug. 5, 1947, in Waverly, Iowa. Together they had two children, daughter, Gloria and son, Allen.

She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Dorcas Circle, and taught Sunday school. She was also a member of the Manly Senior Center and served as a 4-H leader for many years. Her hobbies included sewing, reading, ceramics, and camping. In her later years, Nova collected and refurbished dolls.

Those left to cherish Nova’s memory is her daughter, Gloria (Alan) Ganshert, Osage; grandson, Ryan Louis (fiancée Charissa Holley) Ganshert, Riverview, FL; brother, James Chesnut, Mason City; and step-daughter, Carol (Ken) Patterson, Lafayette, IN.

Nova was preceded in death by her husbands, Elton Kobernusz and Gale Cook, her son, Allen in 1971, brother, Loyd Chesnut and his wife Shirlene, sister-in-law, Betty Chesnut, her parents, infant sister, and all Kobernusz brothers-in-law and sisters-in law, and two nieces.
