Paul R. Bode, Osage

OSAGE, IOWA - Paul R. Bode, age 94, of Osage, died Sunday, March 19, 2017, at Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in Osage with Pastor Julie Schubert officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Paul Bode was born March 2, 1923, in Goodell, the son of Cornelius and Eva (Miller) Bode. He attended school in Goodell. Paul married Dixie Shaffer on Dec. 22, 1943, at The Methodist Church in Charles City.

Farming and family were his greatest enjoyments. Farming with Dixie near Orchard until 1955, then moving to New Haven until their retirement in 1996, when they moved to Osage.

Paul raised pigs on the farm and had a large collection of pigs in his basement from family and friends that he shared with all. He was a member of The First United Methodist Church in Osage.

He loved to be outside and gardened both on the farm and town, sharing his veggies with family and friends. Paul enjoyed fishing, hunting deer and turkey. He loved to visit and enjoyed talking about the old times was a favorite of his.

Paul is survived by his daughter, Virginia (Dale) Garber of Estherville; his son, Charles (Arlis) Bode; five grandchildren: 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; many nieces and nephews.

Paul was preceded by his parents; his wife, Dixie, in 2015; infant daughter, Elizabeth Ann Bode; grandson, Ryan Bode; brothers, Darwin, Ralph and Dale; sister, Thelma Griggs; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
