RICEVILLE, IOWA -- Donald Lee Kruger, 84, died Sunday, January 29, 2017, at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 3, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Riceville. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery with military honors conducted by American Legion Roy Gue Post 244.

Visitation is from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Lindstrom Funeral Home, Riceville, is in charge of arrangements.

Obituary for Donald Lee Kruger

Donald Kruger, 84, of Riceville, Iowa passed away on Sunday January 29, 2017.

Don was born May 20, 1932 in Riceville, Iowa to Marvin and Lena (Ring) Kruger. He was raised in Riceville and graduated from Riceville High School in 1951. He and Velma Kapka were married at St Peters Lutheran Church in Riceville on March 30, 1957 and had two sons.

Don proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for nearly 30 years with tours of duty in Japan, Thailand, the Philippines, and numerous locations in the U.S. until he retired in 1982. After retirement, he earned a degree in Building Construction Technology and also worked for the Riceville Independent School District as a mechanic for a number of years. Don was blessed with a wonderful faith in God and was an active member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Riceville, serving in whatever way he could until the time of his passing.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife Velma, and one sister, Jean Hockens of McIntire, Iowa.

Survivors include two sons: Keith Kruger and Eugene Kruger, both of Wichita Falls, Texas; two sisters: Darlene Kephart and her husband Kenneth of Riceville, Iowa, and Shirley DeVries of Floyd, Iowa.

Memorials may be made to St. Peters Lutheran Church, 105 W 6th St, Riceville, IA 50466.
