Millard H. “Bud” Abben, age 80, of Little Cedar, died Friday, January 13, 2017, at his home in Little Cedar.
Graveside inurnment services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Liberty Cemetery in Little Cedar, with Rev. Dr. Rhoda Preston officiating. Following the inurnment, everyone is invited to a Celebration of Life service with lunch and fellowship at the Osage V.F.W. in Osage.
Millard H. “Bud” Abben was born October 13, 1936, in Greene, the son of Bano and Bena (Gersma) Abben. He graduated from Little Cedar High School in 1955. Bud was united in marriage to Dixie Dunbar on December 15, 1956, at St. James United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. He was a member of the Little Cedar United Methodist Church. Bud loved to golf, play cards, dance at the V.F.W., and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Barrett of Austin, MN; son, Bruce (Ruth Sandmeyer) Abben of Mason City; daughter-in-law, Deborah Abben of Mason City; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Duane Abben of Little Cedar; and sister, Dorothy Caldwell of Cedar Rapids.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dixie Abben, in 2016; son, Jeffrey Abben; and grandson, Nicholas Duryee; three brothers: Leland, Kenneth and Harold Abben; and three sisters: Helen Reckner, Elda Bartholomew and Mildred Rhodes.
