STACYVILLE, IOWA — Alice Margaret Gerk, 94, of Osage, Iowa, died on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with Father Raymond Burkle and Msgr. John Hemann officiating.
Burial will be in the Visitation Catholic Cemetery, Stacyville.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, from 1 to 4 p.m. with a Rosary at 3:30.
Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar is in charge of arrangements.
Alice was born May 24, 1922, in Stacyville, the daughter of Alvina (May) and Anton Hemann. She attended Catholic school at Stacyville. Alice was united in marriage to Roman F. Gerk on February 9, 1944, at Visitation Catholic Church. Alice worked at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home for many years. She was involved in the Lady Foresters, Christian Mothers, Sacred Heart Guild and Coventry Singers. She loved to garden, embroider dish towels, listen to the Twins and polka music. Alice loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family.
Alice is survived by her eight children: Jim (Helen) Gerk, Osage, Dorothy (Dick) Kern, Des Moines, Ken Gerk, Osage, Ruth Gerk, Des Moines, Tom (Lorna) Gerk, Osage, Steve (Rhonda) Gerk, Osage, Mary (Bob) Koch, Des Moines, Elaine (Tom) Landherr, Stacyville; 12 grandchildren: Tim, Theresa, Brenda, Kari, Chris, Brad, Kayla, Michael, Hilary, Gary, Craig and Randy; 12 great-grandchildren: Brandon, Zach, Christina, Alex, Ethan, Kaleb, Tristen, Asthen, Katelyn, Tyler, Kara and Madison; four brothers: Marvin, Harold (Roma), Vernon (Diana) and Robert (Maureen); a sister-in-law, Florence; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roman; one sister, Irene; one brother, Donald; brothers-in-law, Alden, Ervin and Robert; sisters-in-law, Eleanor, Dorothy, Helen and Mary.
