Garry Lee Ranum, age 65, of Osage, died Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday September 24, 2016, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with Pastor Julie Schubert officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery with Military Honors by the Osage American Legion Post 278. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home.
Garry was born on November 20, 1950, in Mason City the son of Harold and Ruth (Dagestad) Ranum. He was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood. In 1970, Garry graduated from Heath High School in Heath, Ohio. He served his country in the United States Army in Vietnam from December 1970 till January 1972. In March 1979, Garry joined the United States Navy where he served for two years.
He graduated with an Associate Arts Degree from St. Phillips College in San Antonio, Texas in 1986. Garry worked as a water tower painter and for the last ten years for RR Donnelley in Osage. He enjoyed gardening, yardwork, hunting, fishing and riding motorcycles. Garry especially loved spending time with his family and friends.
Garry is survived by his wife, Lisa Wilson of Osage; his daughters, Jennifer (Fiancé Jesse Hansen) Ranum of New Hope, Minnesota and Ashley Ranum of Osage; mother, Ruth Ranum of Lucasville, Ohio; mother-in-law, Janet Wilson of Osage; brother-in-law, Brian Wilson of St. Ansgar; sister-in-law, Shelly (Scott) Hickman of Mason City; brother-in-law, Rich (Erin) Wilson of Osage; his siblings, Cathy (Dale) Johnson of Pequot Lake, Minnesota, Ranae Montgomery of Lucasville, Ohio, James (Mary) Ranum of Waukon, Mary (Terry) Williamson of Glenville, Minnesota, Chuck Ranum of Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, Barb Montgomery of Portsmouth, Ohio, Ila (Terry) Jensen of Northwood, Carol (Robert) Skipper of Live Oak, Florida and Michael Ranum of Fort Collins, Colorado; two aunts, Betsey Johnson of Newark, Ohio and Elinor Dagestad of Texas; three sisters-in-law, Pat Ranum of Walters, Minnesota, Carole Deer of Foley, Alabama and Betty Ranum of Manly; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins; his special companions, Fergie his dog and Roscoe his parrot.
He is preceded in death his father; three brothers, John Ranum, Duane Ranum and David Ranum; brothers-in-law, Danny Montgomery and Patrick Montgomery; father-in-law, Donald Wilson.
