MASON CITY, IOWA - Rodney M. Stromley, 74, of Mason City, died Friday, Sept. 16, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center — North Iowa. A celebration of life gathering will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, at the VFW, 1603 S. Monroe Ave. Military honors will be conducted at 2 p.m. by the Mason City Veterans Association. Memorials may be directed to the Rodney Stromley Memorial Fund in care of the family. Rodney was born September 21, 1941, in Iowa City, the son of Christopher and Viola (Nelson) Stromley. He grew up in Carpenter, Iowa, and attended school in Carpenter, Otranto, and Somber, Iowa. At age 17, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy until his honorable discharge in 1968. On Dec. 12, 1961, Rodney was united in marriage to Wilma Kingston in Long Beach, California. They returned to Mason City to raise their seven children. Over the years Rodney worked as a laborer. He and his wife owned The Gopher Hole in Nora Springs, Iowa, and he enjoyed spending his time with his many friends there. Rodney loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed working on cars, fixing things and tinkering, and music. Rodney was a past member of the VFW.

Rodney is survived by his wife of 54 years, Wilma Stromley of Mason City; seven children: Tina Stapleton and husband Gary of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Terry Stromley of Des Moines, Iowa, Scott Stromley and wife Donna of Owatonna, Minnesota, Todd Stromley and special friend Sue of Mason City, Kristie Huber and husband Doug of Mason City, Julie Puentes and husband Rosendo of Mason City, and Chad Stromley and wife Tina of Fertile, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; five siblings: Wayne Stromley and wife Linda of Mason City, Marge Saathoff and husband Dean of Mason City, Barb Smith and husband George of Mason City, Ruben Stromley and wife Helen of Mason City, and Mike Stromley and wife Nancy of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents and many brothers and sisters.
