Adeline E. Schroeder, age 91 of Osage, Iowa, and formerly of Elma, Iowa passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Riceville Family Care Center in Riceville, Iowa.

A Memorial service for Adeline will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at United Methodist Church in Riceville, with Pastor Donna Ihns officiating. Burial will be held at 10:00 AM at Howard Cemetery in Elma on Thursday, December 10, 2015.

Adeline Eleanor (Brockney) Schroeder was born November 14, 1924 on a farm west of Elma to Anthony and Lulu (Eastman) Brockney, their only child. She attended Afton #9 country school and graduated from Elma High School in 1942.

On October 5, 1944, Adeline was united in marriage to Bob Schroeder at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa wen Bob was home on leave from the Navy while he was serving in World War II.

Upon Bob’s return home from the service, the couple made their home on the Brockney family farm west of Elma until their retirement to Osage in 1979.

They were parents of four children; Connie (Paul) Shew of Oregon, Roger (Deb) Schroeder of Elma, Lois (Bob) Hutton of Florida and Toni (Rod) Friedrich of Alta Vista. She was grandma to 13 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 28.

Adeline was a life-long member of United Methodist Church in Elma, as well as Osage, where she taught Sunday School, Bible School, Bible Study. She served and held positions on many of the women’s boards, both locally and in the Mason City district. She was a 4-H leader for the Easton Lincoln Larks for 15 years and was active in the Republican Party, Farm Bureau and later in her years at the Osage Senior Center.

Mission work was an important part of her life as she and Bob served in many aspects, Heifer International, Iowa Nigerian Partnership and the Self Help Program. They participated in mission trips to Mexico, and as host couple with Heifer International in Massachusetts and Arkansas. She loved to help people whether it was taking her famous chicken and homemade noodle soup or sticky cinnamon rolls to people when there was a death or illness.

Bob and Adeline loved to travel as were able to visit all 50 states, as well as, Canada, Mexico and cruises to the Bahamas, Haiti and Cayman Islands.

Adeline was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; daughter, Connie and granddaughter, Leah.

Memorials will be designated to Heifer Project International.
