FUNERAL NOTICE--
GRAFTON, IOWA — Calvin Arnold Brown, 91, of Grafton, died Sunday, July 31, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Home in St. Ansgar.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, rural Carpenter, with the Rev. Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.
Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, is handling arrangements.

#2:OBITUARY--
Calvin was born August 14, 1924 to Herman and Elvina (Dahl) Brown in Barton Township, Worth County, Iowa. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith on October 5, 1924 by Rev. Waldeland at Deer Creek Lutheran Church. He reaffirmed his faith through confirmation January 2, 1940 by Rev. Langehaugh at Deer Creek Lutheran Church. Cal graduated from Carpenter High School in 1942.
He married Elna Schwartz on December 27, 1945 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Dexter, MN. They were married 63 years. To this union they had two sons, Jerry and Larry. They farmed and lived in the Carpenter and Grafton area their entire married life.
Cal loved fishing, working with his horses, collecting tractors, going to auctions. On many occasions he and Elna would spend Friday nights at the Turp in Austin. They loved to polka and Waltz. They even won an award for their fine stepping. The grandchildren learned and listened to this “umpa” music anytime they rode with grandpa.
Cal was a former member of the Worth County Fair Board, Carpenter School Board, a 4-H leader for years, and Advisory Board at Good Sam. He won several awards over the years including Master Pork Producer, dealer of the year from Golden Harvest Seed, outstanding young farmer, Hormel feed dealer award. He showed hogs at many hog shows at which he won several awards.
He was preceded in death by his: loving wife Elna; infant grandson Eric; parents, Herman and Elvina Brown; sisters and brother-in-laws, Hazel (John) D’Errecio and Verna (Harry) Reynolds; brother Harold; four sister-in-laws and their husbands, Arlene (Arnold) Hammermeister, Dorothy (Arthur) Anderson, Margaret (Alvin) Anderson, Lillian (John) Levy; and brother-in-law Jess Wilder.
Those left to cherish his memory: sons, Jerry and wife Sheila (Hook) of Osage, Larry and life partner Jyanine Carlson of St. Ansgar; grandchildren, Erin Brown, Amy (Linca) Scarlett, Sarah (Kevin) Anderson, Waylon (Julie) Brown, and Clint (Samantha) Brown; great-grandchildren, Colby, Reece, Elyse, Lane, Linca and Layla; Sister Ilene Wilder of Beaver Creek, Ohio; sister-in-law Ruth Roehr of St. Ansgar; and numerous nieces and nephews.
