In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mitchell County Memorial Foundation, 616 North 8th Street, Osage, Iowa, 50461.

Bill was born December 5, 1934, in Rockglen, Saskatchewan, Canada, the son of Michael and Elizabeth (Lutz) Bollinger. He was one of seven siblings.

On May 11, 1957, Bill married Kathleen “Kay” Mazolleck in Winnipeg, Canada. They moved to Osage in 1961. He became Director of Public Works for the City of Osage and served in this position until his retirement in 1997. Bill’s passion was making Osage a wonderful place to live and conduct business. Bill focused on bringing necessary infrastructure projects to the City, helping to bolster the economic vitality of Osage. Though these road, sewer and water projects are the foundation of this work, Bill’s favorite projects focused on the parks.

Bill always enjoyed a drive through Spring Park and Sunday morning breakfasts when his children were young. He liked working with the Osage Development Corporation on these impactful projects.

Bill was active with many organizations throughout his life in Osage, including the Rotary Club, Kiwanis, Jaycees, Mitchell County Memorial Foundation and the Iowa Concrete Paving Association at the state level.

Bill enjoyed many hobbies with Kay, including woodworking and gardening. Bill was an avid Halloween prankster and delivered an outhouse or two to an unsuspecting recipient during his heyday. Bill loved his St. Louis Cardinals, Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings. He enjoyed gathering with his family and reminiscing. He always enjoyed the annual pilgrimage back to Canada to visit his folks and siblings. His wry wit and stories will be greatly missed by his children. We are comforted knowing that he and Kay are now reunited building birdhouses, benches and clocks.

Bill was predeceased by his wife, Kay; parents, Michael and Elizabeth Bollinger; sisters, Mary Ann Bollinger, Evelyn Hansen, Margaret Hugel and Darlene Jones; and brother, Edward.

He is survived by his children, Deb (Glen) Preston of Bancroft, Iowa, Sandi (Dwayne) Anderson, Riceville, Iowa, Karen (Scott) Slagle of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Bill (Janice Talley) Bollinger of Montclair, New Jersey; grandchildren, Chris (Crystal) Preston and their children, Emerie and Blaine, Brittany (Nathan) Underberg, Brooke Preston, Alex (Megan) Koenigs, Clark (Momo) Koenigs and their son, Kai, Eric Slagle, Mikey Slagle, Ryan Bollinger, Kevin Bollinger and Maddy Bollinger; three step-grandchildren, Justin (Molly) Anderson, Grant Anderson and Christopher Anderson; and his cherished cat, Leo.
