Eileen Jean Ehlke, age 74, of St. Ansgar, died Sunday, June 12, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Society - St. Ansgar.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2016, at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, rural Carpenter, Iowa, with Pastor Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial will be at the Newburg Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Eileen was born July 12, 1941, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Lester and Elnora (Meling) Selvig. As a youth, she moved with her family to the Osage area. Eileen graduated from Osage Community High School in 1958.
On July 30, 1961, she married Ewald W. Ehlke, Jr. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage. Eileen was a homemaker and farm wife. She was a member of Deer Creek Lutheran Church where she was a member of WELCA and various circles. She was also a member of St. Ansgar Music Mothers. Eileen enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren’s music and athletic activities. She had a passion for making cakes and desserts that were requested by many. She was always looking in cookbooks for the next great dessert to make. Nothing was more precious to Eileen than her family.
Eileen is survived by her husband, Ewald W. Ehlke. Jr. of rural Carpenter; her children, Wendy (Donnie) Thorson and Randy (friend, Sue Mast) Ehlke, all of St. Ansgar, Susan (Mike) Owen of Leland, Steve (Nancy) Ehlke of Mantorville, Minnesota, and Jenny Ehlke of Webster City; grandchildren, Dustin (Lisa) Thorson and daughter, Charli, Marin Thorson, Skylar (Hanna) Thorson and sons, Harrison and Archie, Brendan (fiancée, Kaitlyn Matzen) Ehlke, Garrett (friend, Brooke Claussen) Ehlke, Emily (friend, Sam Steele) Ehlke, Dyllon (fiancée, Emily Bakke) Owen, McKenzie Owen, Caitlyn (friend, Sterling Stecker) Owen, Autumn (friend, Chris Acker) Ehlke, and Alec Ehlke; sisters, Elaine (Wayne) Smolik and Dawn (James) Lackore, all of Osage; sisters-in-law, MaryAnn Selvig of Eleva, Wisconsin, Dorothy (Leon) Teske of Eldora, and Elaine (Donald) Pease of Chatfield, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Elnora Selvig; her brother, Robert Selvig; and her parents-in-law, Bernice and Ewald Ehlke, Sr.
