Marcia Carlson, age 63, of Stacyville, Iowa, died Monday, May 16, 2016, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center Hospice Unit in Osage.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2016, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Toeterville with Pastor Lance Kittleson officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family of Marcia Carlson.
Marcia was born November 3, 1952, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, the daughter of Lorna (Pitan) and Vernal Bartz, Sr. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1971.
On April 22, 1972, Marcia married Brian Carlson at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. They lived in Albert Lea for a short time, and then made their home in Stacyville. Marcia was a homemaker and also was a librarian at the Stacyville Public Library.
She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Toeterville. Marcia was an avid reader. She enjoyed going up north to the lake, shopping, trips to the casino, collecting various items, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Marcia is survived by her husband, Brian Carlson of Stacyville; her children, Chris (Julie) Carlson of Ankeny, Craig (Cindy) Carlson of Mason City, and Michael (Stacey) Carlson of Des Moines; grandchildren, Kristen, Jared and Macy Carlson, and Chloe, Natalie and Landon Carlson; sister, Ruth (Merlyn) Petersen of Waseca, Minnesota; brothers, Robert Bartz of Albert Lea, Minnesota, and Vernal (Pam) Bartz, Jr. of Greeley, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Viola Bartz; step-sisters, Joyce Metcalfe and Fern Cameron; and step-brother, Virgil Mielke.
