John Gordon Torney was born October 31, 1895 at Rock, Mitchell, Iowa to Edward James Torney and Luva Anna Whipple, the second of their seven children.

Found in the 1900 - 1915 censuses living on a farm at Rock, Mitchell, Iowa:
1900: Edward Torney 35, Luva Torney 26, Vera Torney 6, Gordon Torney 4, Grant Torney 2.

1910: Edward Torney 45, Lura A Torney 36, Vera G Torney 16, John G Torney 14, Richard G Torney 12, Herman M Torney 7, Celia L Torney 5.

1915: John Gordon Torney age 18.

John enlisted in the US Army and served as a Sergeant in World War 1.

Found in the 1920 census at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa: Ed J Tomey 54, Luva Tomey 46, Gordon Tomey 24, Grant Tomey 21, Merle Tomey 17, Celia Tomey 15[18], Dean Tomey 7, Stelle Ouranger (Auringer) 25, Eva Ouranger 20, Harry Houghten 17.

John G Torney married Helen M Grace (b April 22, 1900 Iowa, d December 7, 1991 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa) on September 18, 1920 at Mitchell Co, Iowa. The couple divorced before 1925 and had no children.

John Torney then married Hazel Hill abt 1925. The couple had 2 children, a girl and a boy.

1925: Gordon Torrey 29, Hazel Torrey 27.

1930: J Gordon Torney 34, Hazel Torney 33, Virginia R Torney 2 yrs 8 mos.

1940: Gordon John Torney 44, mechanic, Hazel Torney 43, Virgina Torney 12, James G Torney 8, Glen Hill 45 (brother in law, electrician)

John G Torney died May 31, 1986 at Hennepin, Minnesota and was buried at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
There is a memorial for him at Find a Grave #3510684.
