Hattie M Torney was born October 1873, at Rock, Mitchell, Iowa to Edward Torney and Rhoda J Weller, the first of their two children. She had a brother, Henry.
Found in the 1880 - 1895 censuses living on a farm at Rock, Mitchell, Iowa:
1880: Edward Torney 38, Rhoda Torney 29, Hattie Torney 6, Henry Torney 3.
1885: Edward Torney 45; Roda J 32; Hattie M 11; Henry B 7.
1895: Hattie M Torney age 21.
Hattie married Samuel L Costley on May 6 1899 at West Mitchell, Mitchell, Iowa. The couple had no children. The couple moved to Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa according to the "Meroa" booklet/clippings from Osage Press News. Sam had bought 80 acres of farmland on what is now the Rudd Blacktop. He sold it to Martin Moe in 1926.
Found in the 1900 - 1920 censuses at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa:
1900: Sam L Costley 29, Hattie M Costley 26.
1910: Sam L Costley 39, Hattie Costley 36.
1920: Sam L Costley 48, Hattie M Costley 46. Says they lived on Rock Creek Road.
Found in the 1915 census at Mitchell, Mitchell, Iowa: Mrs Hatty Costley age 42.
Found in the 1930 - 1940 censuses at Rock, Mitchell, Iowa:
1930: Henry Tomey 52, Sam Costley 59, Hattie Costley 56.
1940: Henry E Tarney 61, Samuel L Costley 69, Hattie M Costley 64.
Hattie M Costley died on July 19, 1947 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa and was buried at the Osage City Cemetery, Osage, Mitchell, Iowa.
There is a memorial for her at Find a Grave #57277360.
