Wesley A. "Wes" Rowcliffe

Died February 7, 2016

Wesley A. Rowcliffe, 58, of Osage, Iowa, died Sunday, February 7, 2016, at Faith Lutheran Home after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He spent his last days surrounded by loved ones.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 12, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage with the Rev. Bruce Kaltwasser officiating. Burial will be in the Orchard Cemetery at Orchard, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 402 State Street, Osage, Iowa.

Wesley “Wes” Rowcliffe was born on June 21, 1957, in Osage, to Walter Rowcliffe and Eythel (Baxter) Rowcliffe. He spent his childhood on a farm with seven siblings near Orchard, Iowa. Wes graduated from Osage High School in 1976 and worked at the family business, Rowcliffe Machine Company, until 1983. Wes held various other positions at IMI Cornelius, Johnson Oil Company, Leading Edge Ford, Cargill Kitchen Solutions, and most recently at the Cedar River Complex. He particularly enjoyed driving truck, doing repair work, and the company of his co-workers.

On May 21, 1985, Wes was united in marriage to Julie Block of Hillman, Minnesota, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Wes was a very proud father to his two sons, William “Bill” and Wayne. He enjoyed cheering them on at sporting events, helping with school projects, and supporting them through their studies at Iowa State University.

Wes was also a proud godfather to Josh Dammen, Shari (Cannon) Reed, and Kristen Hemann. Recently, Wes's life was brightened even further by the arrival of his granddaughter, Adelaide Sabine Rowcliffe on November 3, 2015.

Wes was an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church where he served on several boards. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, spending time outdoors camping, hunting, and practicing archery with his two sons at the Osage Conservation Club, where he had served as President. Wes was quite the handyman and could often be found working in his shop “tinkering” with various projects and carving his latest walking stick. Wes is fondly remembered by neighbors, friends, and family as a man who could talk with anyone and would be the first to help someone in need.

Wes is survived by his wife, Julie Rowcliffe, of Osage; son, Bill Rowcliffe and fiancée Chelsea Ewen of Osage; son, Wayne (Amy) Rowcliffe and their daughter Adelaide of Ames; mother, Eythel Rowcliffe of Osage; sister, Norma (Dave) Brunner of Osage; brother, William “Bill” Rowcliffe of Basehor, Kansas; sister, Donita (Roger) Link of Maxwell; brother, Willis “Bim” (Debi) Rowcliffe of Sherman, Texas; brother, Walter “Wally” (Dana) Rowcliffe of Strawberry Point; sister, Nancy (Paul) Danzow of Osage; and sister, Nadine “Chip” (John) Eberhardt of Elkader; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Rowcliffe; infant sister, Bonnie Louise; and maternal and paternal grandparents.
