U.S. Veteran--

John F. Kasel, age 86, of Osage, died Sunday, January 24, 2016, at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 29, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 p.m.

John was born October 31, 1929, in Waterloo, the son of Paul P. and Anna M. (Bodensteiner) Kasel. He graduated from Visitation High School in Stacyville in 1947 and received his Associates Degree from NIACC in 1972. John served in the United States Army.

On October 13, 1962, John married Vera Marie Ives at Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City. He worked at White Farm Equipment for 39 ½ years and retired in July in 1993. John was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Osage and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus of Mason City. He served as the Financial Secretary for the Knights of Columbus Council 1403, in Osage from 1970 to 2012. He served as President at the Osage Senior Citizens Center for two years and in other capacities for several years.

John is survived by his wife, Vera Kasel of Osage; his children: Theresa Kasel of San Diego, California, Mary Jo (John) Vogl of Urbandale, Debra (Donny) Cook of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kevin Kasel of West Des Moines, and Benji (Lori) Kasel of LeMars; his six grandchildren, Matt(Amelia) Vogl, Brandon Vogl, Heather Cook, Heidi Cook, Kenna Kasel, and Teagen Kasel; his siblings, Mary (John) Brumm of Storm Lake, Eugene Kasel of Roscoe, Illinois, Daniel (Barbara) Kasel of Adams, Minnesota, Joan Krause of Pine Island, Minnesota, Ted Kasel of Ames and Carol Kasel of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Timothy Kasel; his two brothers, Paul F. Kasel and William Kasel and his sister Barbara Kitt.
