Died November 19, 2015

Eleanor Edith (Vrieze) Squier, age 89, of Osage, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2015, at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage with Rev. Bryan Lagerstam officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa.

Eleanor was born in rural Spring Valley, Minnesota, on November 3, 1926, to Harry and Winnie (Hess) Vrieze. She attended Maple Lane, Frankford, Hamilton, and Stewartville, Minnesota schools.

On February 16, 1947, she married G. Dean Squier in Osage. Eleanor worked at Marr Knitting Mill in Osage for many years. She also was Dean’s bookkeeper in the several businesses that he owned. She began working for Mitchell County Home Health in 1985, retiring in 2005. Eleanor was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Eve Circle, and the Faith Lutheran Home, American Legion and V.F.W. Auxiliaries. She had been a scout and 4-H leader when her children were involved in those programs, and was an active volunteer at church. Eleanor loved spending time with family.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Dean in 1997; brother, W. Franklin Vrieze; and sisters, Harriet Rolli and Dorothy Burmeister.

Survivors include a daughter, Julie Riker (Steve Myers) of Mason City; a son, Mark (Sherrie) Squier of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Haley and Ty Squier of Oklahoma City, and Kyle Riker of Mason City; two step-grandchildren, Amber Myers and Jessica Myers of Mason City; two step-great-grandchildren, Carter and Aubrey Huebner of Mason City; brothers, Kenneth (Joanne) Vrieze, Calvin (Maxine) Vrieze, and Avery (Donna) Vrieze, all of Racine, Minnesota, and Floyd Vrieze of Albert Lea, Minnesota; a sister, Vivian Rodenz of Mabel, Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
