Wake to take place from 5-8 p.m. on November 27, 2015 at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar, with the rosary being said at 4:30 pm.

Marge was born on February 18, 1937 and grew up in Meyer. She was the only child of Katherine Koenigs and Aloysious Koenigs. She attended Meyer Sacred Heart Grade School and graduated from Visitation High School in 1954. She attended St. Mary’s School of Practical Nursing at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and graduated with her LPN in 1956. She worked on the orthopedic floor for several years at St. Mary’s Hospital.

She married Edward Peter Salz on April 8, 1958 in Meyer, Iowa. Together they moved to a farm east of Stacyville, in 1964 and began farming. They were members of Visitation Parish and Marge was a member of the Christian Mothers. She also worked at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home for 15 years.

Marge and Ed retired from farming in 1994 and moved to St. Ansgar, in 2009 to be near family. Marge loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She will be remembered by all of us as the “Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Maker Ever”. Marge loved to travel and has been to Italy, Alaska, Hawaii, California, Florida, Costa Rica and prior to her passing, Ed and Marge had just returned from Branson, Missouri.

She loved walking either with someone or by herself. She was also known as a wonderful seamstress and showed her talents by making each grandchild a quilt for their high school graduation gift. Attending her grandchildren’s concerts, recitals and sporting events was another one of her favorite things to do. She attended as many as her travels and time allowed.

In 2008, Ed and Marge, along with their entire family, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Northern Wisconsin on Squash Lake.

Marge is survived by her husband, Ed; seven children, Carmen (John) Kittleson, Sharon (Bruce) Bartels, Barb Salz (Tommy Bartleson), Doug (Joy) Salz, Judy Salz (Mike Coonrod), Dennis (Laurie) Salz, and Debra Salz-Steenblock (Kent) Steenblock; 15 grandchildren, Jacob, Isaac (Sarah Marlier) Kittleson, Caitlin, Mackenzie and Trey Bartels, Riley and Paige Salz, Will and Kristen Coonrod, Ben, Brandon, Colin, Carter and Megan Salz, and Delaney Steenblock.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents.

As a final gift, Marge was able to make a contribution to the Iowa Donor Network.

In lieu of flowers, and at mom’s insistence, please make donations to the Stacyville Community Nursing Home.
