Christian Olesen Rustad was born June 23, 1842 at Hurdal, Akershus, Norway to Ole Olsen Vestlien and Olea Gulbrandsdatter, the oldest of their three children.
He was baptized on July 10, 1842 at Hurdal. Birth/baptismal record found in the Norwegian Digital Archives on-line for Hurdal in Hurdal, Akershus, Norway, 1828-1845, page 92, entry # 56: Father Ole Olsen Vestlien, mother Olea Gulbrandsdatter. Sponsors: Gulbrand Pedersen Rustad; Christopher Olsen; J. N. Hans? Johannesen; Kathrine Olsdatter Vestlien; Ingeborg Lucia D Rustad (hard to decipher)
On April 6, 1861, Chris left Norway to emigrate to Iowa with his parents. Emigration record found in the Norwegian Digital Archives on-line for Hurdal in Hurdal, Akershsus, Norway, 1860-1877, pg 216, entry #'s: 103 Gulbrand age 75; #104 Chatrine age 69; # 105 Olea Gulbrandsdatter Rustad age 38; #106 Christian age 19; #107 Olaus Olsen age 17 and #108 Caroline Olsdatter age 15.
Believe he was a member of the US Army after coming to Iowa and may have fought in the Civil War.
Chris O Rustad died on June 27, 1869 at rural St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa and was buried at the First Lutheran Cemetery, St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa.
There is a memorial for him at Find A Grave # 69378823.
