Phyllis Rosella (Beland) Schmidt, age 99, of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, and formerly of Stacyville, died Saturday, August 22, 2015, at her home in Inver Grove Heights, three days short of her 100th Birthday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at the Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with Msgr. John Hemann officiating. Burial will be at the Visitation Catholic Cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Phyllis was born August 25, 1915, in Charles City, Iowa, the daughter of William and Kathryn (Ryan) Beland. She graduated from Osage Community High School in 1932. Phyllis married Carl Schmidt on June 9, 1941, at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville. She taught in rural Stacyville schools for seven years and was the activity director at Stacyville Nursing Home for 14 years. Phyllis was a lifetime member of Visitation Catholic Church. She enjoyed her family, teaching, playing cards with friends and family, crossword puzzles, knitting and going out to eat.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Kathryn Johnson of Raleigh, North Carolina, Mary Huettl of Woodbury, Minnesota, Richard (Dyan Venters) Schmidt, of Fullerton, California, Anthony (Sharon) Schmidt of San Diego, California; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; four sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl in 1992; eight siblings, Irene, Frances, Bill, Ralph and Bob Beland, Margaret Heimer, Lucille Wright and Joan Schmidt.
