Mary Lee Patterson, age 87, of Osage and formerly of Indianapolis, died Saturday, August 8, 2015, at Good Shepherd Health Center Alzheimer’s Unit in Mason City.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2015, at Good Shepherd Health Center Chapel in Mason City with Good Shepherd Health Center Chaplain Kent Mechler officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorials be directed to the Alzheimer’s Unit at Good Shepherd Health Center, 302 2nd Street NE, Mason City, Iowa, 50402. The last two years of Mary Lee’s life were filled with quality and love, thanks to the good people that work there.
Mary Lee was born July 14, 1928, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Robert Winget “R.W.” and Mary (Bradshaw) McBride. She graduated from Indianola High School in 1946 and from Simpson College in 1950, with a degree in education. On August 23, 1950, she married Ray Patterson in Indianola, Iowa. Mary Lee taught physical education until 1964 and was the office manager of the Osage Medical group from 1967-1973. She also sold real estate after moving to Indianapolis in 1973.
Mary Lee belonged to the Methodist Church in Osage and Indianapolis and sang in the choirs in both churches. She joined Our Savior’s Lutheran Church after moving back to Osage in 2009. Mary Lee loved music and travel. Her husband said her middle name should be “Go” because she was always ready to go wherever anyone suggested. She had a great sense of adventure. Music was always a huge part of Mary Lee’s life and it continued even when she couldn’t remember many other things.
Mary Lee is survived by her children, Rae Anne (Brad) Havig of Osage, Jeanne (Jeff) Weinland of New Albany, Ohio, Bob (Jerri) Patterson of Anderson, Indiana, Bill (Linda) Patterson of Garland Texas, and Polly (Tom) Marvel of San Tan Valley, Arizona; 14 grandchildren, Sara Havig (Andrew Meyer), Lindsay Havig, Joe (Melissa) Havig, Nick Weinland, Casey Weinland, Kari Weinland, Tara (Eric) Nicholas, Josh (Memorie) Patterson, Jack (Abby) Patterson, Emma Patterson, Ben Patterson, Betsy Patterson, Angie (Jon) Sears, and Whitney (Chris) Clinton; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray Patterson in 1995; her sister, Maggie Pekuri and brother, R.W. “Mac” McBride; her great-grandson, Brandon Sears; and her very special friend, Lawrence Weinberger.
