Edwald Arnold Nikolas – February 22, 1889 – February 5, 1965
FORMER RESIDENT BURIED ON MONDAY
Edwald Arnold Nikolas, 75, died Friday noon at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital in Osage following a two year illness of leukemia.
He was born February 22, 1889, near Marble Rock, the son of Frederick and Mary Gladys Nikolas. He married Marie Marzen at Dougherty on January 29, 1912. The couple farmed in the Powersville vicinity for a number of years. Two years ago they moved to Osage.
Survivors include his wife; five sons; Edwald Jr. of Downey, California, Donald, Leo and Eugene, all of Osage, and Earl of Waterloo; three daughters, Mrs. Dale (Frances) Ferch of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Russell (Bette) Ewoldt of Wayzata, Minnesota, and Mrs. Charles (Pauline) Vala of Charles City; three sisters, Mrs. Minna Ackley of Marble Rock, Mrs. Erma Bronsema and Mrs. Henry Lange, both of Waterloo; one brother, Herman Nikolas of Marble Rock; 29 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Clair, two sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services were held on Monday at 10:00 o’clock a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Rev. Lloyd Reuter officiating. Burial was held in Calvary Cemetery at Charles City.
