Bernard “Barney” Anderson

August 26, 1923 – June 11, 2015

Bernard “Barney” Anderson, age 91, of Osage, died Thursday, June 11, 2015, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 15, 2015, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with Rev. Bruce Kaltwasser officiating. The family will greet friends and relatives for an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at the Osage Cemetery with military honors at the grave by Osage American Legion Post 278.

Barney was born August 26, 1923, in Osage, Iowa, the son of Ludwig and Leona (Millington) Anderson. He married Betty Haberkorn on March 26, 1949. Barney served two tours of duty in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad, retiring in 1983. Barney enjoyed fishing, pitching horseshoes, bowling, golf, dancing, and singing. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Barney is survived by three daughters, Linda Hatten-Lickteig of St. Ansgar, Janet Ellingson of Albert Lea, Minnesota, and Terry (George) Ide of Dodge Center, Minnesota; three sons, Roger Anderson of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Tracy Anderson of Osage, and Brian Anderson of Clear Lake; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Anderson in 1992; and two sisters, Dorothy and Doris.
