RICEVILLE, IOWA - Thomas “Murray” Holmes, age 98, of Riceville passed away at the Riceville Family Care & Therapy Center in Riceville on Sunday May 3, 2015.

Funeral services will be held at the First Congregational Church of Christ in Riceville on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Scott Meyer officiating. Burial will be held at the Oakwood Cemetery in Plymouth, Iowa at 1 p.m.

Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville on Tuesday, May 5 during the hours of 4-7 p.m. and one hour before services at the church.

Thomas M. Holmes was born February 22, 1917 near Clear Lake, Iowa, to Thomas A. and Marguerite Murray Holmes. He attended local schools and graduated from Mason City High School. He was united in marriage to Inez Alitz at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Murray farmed for 20 years near Riceville. He worked for Lenz Implement until the age of 80.

Survivors include a son, Greg (Jan) Holmes of Detroit Lakes, MN; a daughter, Marilyn Hartogh of Cedar Rapids, IA; 5 grandchildren: Colleen (Pierce) Eckhoff of Minkum, IA, Steve (Susanna) Hartogh of St. Paul, MN, Mike (Aimee) Hartogh of St. Paul, MN, Janelle Bowman of Houston, TX, and Nicole (Matt) Celichowski of St. Paul, MN; 11 great grandchildren: Ethan Eckhoff, Collin and Maureen Hartogh, Henry and Lucy Hartogh, Jane and Jackson Bowman, Kate, Oscar, Roland, and Everett Celichowski and his dear friend Isaiah Hill; one brother, Jack Holmes of Dubuque, IA; 2 sisters: Mary Lois Alitz of Des Moines, IA and Marguerite Pappas of Mason City, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Inez, and one brother LeRoy.
